Research
We have the capacity and are committed to the collection, synthesis and analysis of comprehensive data through research that would more clearly identify inter-alia, gaps and opportunities. We anticipate that this rich data will guide the development of a more holistic approach to funding the African Caribbean agencies through PATRA Inc ACDA leading to a ‘sea-change’ approach to strategic agencies, Funding agencies and others to agree a new paradigm under the Hub and Spoke model to provide support to the BME sector.
We plan to launch through a comprehensive research project that links all the existing current research- identify the assessment of current gaps vis a vis the needs identified in Education, Housing, Health, Employment etc and consult BME agencies about the holistic, coordinated but single focused new paradigm.
The Research function of the agency relates to both ‘purposeful and speculative’ research and this agency will become a repository of not just in-house research but research for the whole BME Sector so that it becomes the agency of ‘first choice’ whenever data is needed about the BME community.
Our archive will include artefacts, books, video tapes, clothing, memorabilia etc belonging to the African Caribbean community that are currently scattered in several locations.
Some of the indicative research subjects will include:
- the mortality rates from cancer and heart disease
- health inequalities
- crime and the fear of crime
- the Criminal Justice System
- drugs
- business development
- social enterprise
- race equality
- refugee integration and inclusion
- sustaining improvements in primary education
- transforming secondary education
- pupil inclusion
- raising attainment at 14-19
- improving the skills of young people
- raising participation and quality in post 16 learning provision
- tackling the adults skills deficit
We provide regular reports to key strategic National, Regional and Local agencies as necessary, co-operate in monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the performance of the African Caribbean part of the BME sector and the general direction of the work within a framework of social and economic inclusion, equal opportunities, anti-discriminatory and other policies.
